ADB to fund Sri Lanka roof top solar power scheme

ECONOMYNEXT – The Asian Development Bank will fund a loan scheme in Sri Lanka to encourage the use of rooftop solar power, Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy said.

The loan scheme will be implemented with the collaboration of the Ministry of National Policy and Economic Affairs, Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, Sustainable Energy Authority, and other stakeholders,

The government aims to promote rooftop solar power generation in the country, he said in a speech on the Central Bank’s road map for 2017.

    Good initiative. I personally evaluated this option with net metering in light of Soorya Bala Sangramaya scheme that was launched recently. As per my observation for this to be promoted need further concessions to average income house holders. Mainly, some mechanism to reduce initial cost stable as well as reliable suppliers for service requirements since this is a long term investment.

    wisest decision in more than a decade better late than never. hopefully, there would be 50 grant and 50 loan repayable in around 20 years - only for residential premises - the offer should be affordable to the average household in sri lanka with very low disposable incomes.
