ECONOMYNEXT - China CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd. (CAMCE), has been awarded a 39.5 million US dollar contract to build the left bank irrigation systems of a reservoir in Sri Lanka's Yan Oya (river), the state information office said.
CAMCE had built the headworks of the dam for 150 million dollars after offering to build the whole project for 176 million US dollars, but Chinese funding agencies did not finance the whole contract, earlier reports said.
The Yan Oya reservoir is expected to irrigate 4,190 hectares of agricultural land in Trincomalee and Anuradhapura which are facing water shortages.
