ECONOMYNEXT - An international competitive tender to build 60 one 1MegaWatt solar plants around Sri Lanka will close on April 26, Deputy Power Minister Ajith Perera said.
The solar farms will be accommodated as 'embedded' or 'distributed' generation in 20 districts connecting directly to grid substations.
Distributed generation saves on transmission losses.
Perera said the move to competitive tender by the current administration has ended the practice of giving licenses at fixed prices.
Bid for the solar farms on April 26.
Sri Lanka pays high prices for renewable energy, particularly for wind and solar, with heavy lobbying by the so-called 'renewable energy mafia'.
Perera said competitive bidding had cut the input tariff for wind from over 20 rupees to just 12.29 rupees. (Colombo/Mar23/2017)
