Inflation in Sri Lanka’s capital picks up to 6.8-pct in February

ECONOMYNEXT – Inflation in the Sri Lankan capital, as measured by Colombo Consumer Price Index, picked up to 6.8% in February 2017 from a year ago after rising 5.5% in January, the statistics department said.
The CCPI in February 2017 was the highest in over a year.
It said in a statement the CCPI’s year-on-year inflation of the Food Group increased from 4.5% in January to 7.7% in February 2017 and that of the Non-food Group rose from 6.0% to 6.4% during the period.
For the month of February 2017, the contribution to inflation by food commodities was 2.24% and the contribution of Non-food items was 4.52%.
The moving average inflation rate for February 2017 was 4.6%, up from 4.3% in January.
