Sri Lanka November tea crop up 8.4-pct

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s tea production rose 8.4% in November 2016 from a year ago, led by a recovery in harvesting of low grown teas which make up the bulk of crop, brokers said.
But cumulative production in the eleven months to November this year at 264.8 million kilos was 40.5 million kilos or 13.29% less than the same period of 2015, brokers John Keells Ltd. said.
Sri Lanka’s tea production for November 2016 was 27.3 million kilos, with High Grown teas down by 2.1% while production of Medium Grown teas was up 1.5% and Low Growns up 4 % compared with the same month in 2015.
