Sri Lanka appoints missing persons commissioners

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena had appointed commissioners to an Office of Missing Persons, which will report to the parliament.
It is expected to determine the status of missing persons as part of Sri Lanka's reconciliation mechanism.
"The OMP will be an independent body reporting to Sri Lanka’s Parliament and is expected to bring a degree of closure to surviving family members of Sri Lanka’s internal conflicts and will set the stage for sustainable reparations for victims and their families," the state information office said.
President Maithripala Sirisena had handed over letters of appointments to the following commissioners on February 28.

Jayatheepa Punniyamoorthy – Member/OMP
Mohanti Antonette Peiris – Member/ OMP
Sriyani Nimalka Fernando – Member/ OMP
Mirak Raheem – Member/ OMP

Kanapathipillai Venthan – Member/ OMP
