ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lankan government had awarded contracts for investors to build 20 small scale solar power plants around the island under a program to promote renewable energy, a spokesman said.

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratna said the Cabinet of ministers this week approved a proposal by Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya to award the contracts under the 'Surya Bala Sangramaya' programme.

The deals for the 1MW solar power plants were awarded according to the recommendations of the government’s Standing Cabinet Appointed Procurement Committee and Procurement Appeal Board.

The solar power plants will supply power through 20 grid sub-stations.

We have vast number of water reserviors all over the Island. Why not install bank of floating panels in these reserviors. This will minimise the water evorporation, and conserve the much needed Water.
