Sri Lanka ex-tourism bosses charged over misuse of funds

COLOMBO (EconomyNext) - Two top officials of Sri Lanka's tourist promotion office have been hauled to court for misusing state funds, the island's anti-corruption office said. Bhaswara Gunaratne, former Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Bureau and its Managing Director Rumy Jaufer were charged in the chief magistrate's court, the Commission Against Bribery and Corruption said. The two had used 4.2 million rupees of state funds for election propaganda during the last regime, in the guise of promoting tourism.
