Sri Lanka foreign minister to focus on implementation in economic cooperation projects

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s new Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake has told Indian  Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he will focus on the implementation of the many economic cooperation projects between the two neighbours.

Frequent visits at the highest level have brought about a close bond between the two countries, Karunanayake told Modi during a meeting on an official visit to New Delhi from 6-7 June 2017.

During this visit, he also met Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

“Referring to the initiatives taken especially on economic cooperation projects, the Minister said that he would ensure greater focus on their implementation,” it said.

The discussion also covered avenues for collaboration in other areas of common interest.

Prime Minister Modi said that India will stand by Sri Lanka’s forward march towards progress and prosperity.
