Sri Lanka gets $60mn ADB loan for drinking water in kidney disease areas

ECONOMYNEXT – The Asian Development Bank will give Sri Lanka a loan of $60 million to provide safe drinking water supply schemes for Chronic Kidney Disease prone areas.
The loan from the Asian Development Fund is to implement the Pura Neguma - Local Government Enhancement Sector Project covering the districts of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Matale, Badulla, Monaragala, Puttalam and Kurunegala.
A finance ministry statement said that the project will also contribute to improve priority infrastructure and basic services delivery in 29 Pradeshiya Sabhas in the Western, Southern, Central, North Western and Uva Provinces.
Proceeds of the loan will be utilised for advancing policy reforms of local governments and strengthening their capacity, it said.
