Sri Lanka ties up with China Harbour to fund billion dollar financial building

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka has tied up with China Harbour Engineering group the sea near the capital Colombo seek funds for a billion dollar showcase building that will house a financial centre in an city reclaimed from the sea.
Colombo Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd, the project company that is reclaiming the sea, China Harbour Engineering Corporation its parent had inked a deal with the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development to seek funds for the building.
The construction is expected to bring in a billion US dollars, the state information office said.
The financial city will be one of the key pieces of architecture in the 269 hectare reclaimed city, which will have commercial and residential districts, as well as a central park and yacht marina.
US architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), were earlier awarded a deal to design the building beating Nikken Sekkei of Japan and San Francisco’s Gensler, reports said.
The first pieces of land is expected to be ready for construction next year. (Colombo/Dec22/2017)
