ECONOMYNEXT - World Bank's Vice President for Equitable Equitable, Finance, and Institutions Jan Walliser is on a two day visit to Sri Lanka to observe the reform process in the country.

"Sri Lanka has made a strong commitment to implement comprehensive fiscal, economic, and governance reforms," he said in a statement.

"I look forward to my meetings with the government to understand how the World Bank Group can further strengthen its ongoing support for these initiatives."

He will meet government and private sector officials and the Right to Information Commission. Wallister said the RTI law can be used on the path to prosperity.

"It is a tool for all citizens – especially the economically weak, the private/non-government sector, and the media to play a key role in the decision making process of the public sector" he said.

He reiterated the Bank’s commitment to support the implementation of the law together with other development partners and key stakeholders.

Before joining the World Bank in 2002, Walliser was an economist at the International Monetary Fund and a Principal Analyst at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office.
