ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is considering setting up a warehouse management system to better use its storage facilities in ports under its control.

This was one of the decisions taken at a recent meeting of the SLPA’s board of directors, a statement said.

Recent improvements in operational procedures at SLPA ports have reduced, and minimized idle time  and increased efficiency, it said.

The SLPA’s Information Systems Division (ISD) has proposed the establishment of a Warehouse Management System with the aim of further improving the speed of operations at its storage facilities.

The SLPA made a profit of 11 billion rupees after tax in 2016, part of which was derived from effective management procedures to reduce waste and inefficiency, the statement said. (COLOMBO, April 19, 2017)
