ECONOMYNEXT - An exhibition to promote entrepreneurship in rural Sri Lanka coupled with a village infrastructure development drive that has kicked of in the island's poorest district will bring opportunities advancement, Finance Minister Mangala Samarasweera said.
The Enterprise Sri Lanka exhibition will have banks, companies and state agencies in place for aspiring entrepreneurs to get training and credit from several schemes which are subsidized by the state.
Aspiring entrepreneurs who visit the exhibition can apply and learn to prepare project reports.
Under the Enterprise Sri Lanka schemes banks are encouraged to lend on the strength of project proposals, he said.
Samaraweera said the first exhibition from August 29 to 31 is being held in Moneragala in Sri Lanka's Uva district where a there was a rebellion during British rule in 1818.
Though Sri Lanka won a civil war in 2009, the economic war is yet to be won, he said.
The exhibition also displays Sri Lanka's status as an trading hub for many centuries.
The exhibitions will be coupled with a rural infrastructure development drive. In Uva district some houses were still without toilets, ministers said.
Samaraweera said 200 million rupee had been allocated to a division and 32 billion rupees will be spent this year on remote rural areas.
The next exhibition will be held in Anuradhapura and the North, he said. (Colombo/Aug30/2018)
