ECONOMYNEXT - Hayleys Free Zone Limited (HFZL), a company which is operating a logistics and entrepot trading centre has been asked to re-export over 100 containers containing used mattresses and carpets, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka said.

Hayleys Free Zone had imported 130 containers from the UK in October 2017 for re-export, but only 29 containers had been re-exported, the BOI said. The consignee was a different firm.

In January the BOI had asked the firm in writing to re-export the balance containers by end February 2018.

"The company however, has failed to meet this commitment and has from time to time requested extensions to comply, citing technical and other constraints," the agency said in a statement.

"Since the company has failed to re-export the goods as committed the BOI Board has decided to take stern action against the company with a view to concluding this matter expeditiously,"

"Simultaneously the BOI took further steps to suspend all future import of used material and the company committed to clear all cargo by end February 2018."

The containers are now lying at Colombo Port, the BOI said.

HFZL has been given approval to operated a logistics centre out of the Katunayake Export Processing Zone on May 2014 t operated under Hub Regulation No. 01, of 2013. (Colombo/July19/2019)
