Inflation in Sri Lanka’s capital picks up to 4.2-pct in October

ECONOMYNEXT - Inflation in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo picked up to 4.2% in October 2016 from a year ago after falling in the three previous months, according to data from the Department of Census and Statistics.

The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) rose 0.6% in October on a month-on-month basis, compared with a 0.3% fall in September, a statement said.

Consumer prices in Colombo had hit a 32-month high of 6% in June and had been falling since then.

Year-on-year (YoY) inflation measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index was 3.9% in September 2016, the Department of Census and Statistics said.

“YoY inflation of the Food Group has increased from 5.5% in September 2016 to 6.0% in October 2016 while that of the Non - food Group remain unchanged at 2.5% during this period.”

The contribution to inflation by food commodities was 2.86% in October and that of non food items was 1.34%.
