ECONOMYNEXT - Japan has relaxed a travel advisory to its nationals which was slapped after Easter Sunday suicide attacks by Islamist extremists.
In light of the stabilization of security situation in Sri Lanka as a result of the large-scale and intensive investigations and security re-enforcement by the concerned authorities,
"..[T]he Government of Japan relaxed the travel advisory nation-wide from level-2 (refrain from non-essential travel) to level-1(exercise sufficient caution) on June 25, 2019," the embassy of Japan said.
"The Government of Japan, however, continues to advise the Japanese nationals to maintain sufficient vigilance during their stay in Sri Lanka with possible occurrence of terrorist attacks and other incidents of violence in mind."
Japan said it was relaxing the advisory due to "stabilization of security situation in Sri Lanka as a result of the large-scale and intensive investigations and security re-enforcement by the concerned authorities."
In 2018, 49450 Japanese tourists visited Sri Lanka and is the largest East Asian source market after China. (Colombo/July02/2019)
