Lasantha Wickremasinghe new President of CA Sri Lanka

ECONOMYNEXT - Chartered Accountant Lasantha Wickremasinghe was inducted as the 23rd President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) on Tuesday.

Wickremasinghe, a fellow member of CA Sri Lanka, counts for 20 years of experience and is a Partner at B.R. De Silva & Co. Chartered Accountants.

He has served in the CA Sri Lanka Council since 2006, and prior to his induction as President, was Vice President from 2014 to 2015, a statement said.

Wickremasinghe serves as a Board Member of the Confederation of Asian Pacific Accountants (CAPA), the regional organisation representing national accountancy organisations in the Asia-Pacific region.

He is a Technical Advisor to the Board of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), which is an apex body of the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC).

He chairs SAFA’sImprovement in Transparency, Accountability & Governance Committee (ITAG) and is a Member of the Board of Directors of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board, and also serves as an Ex-Officio Member of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

A product of Nalanda College, Wickremasinghe’s experience spans the industry sectors of banking, finance, insurance, lotteries, plantation, manufacturing and services.

Jagath Perera was appointed as Vice President of CA Sri Lanka. A fellow member of CA Sri Lanka and a graduate of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Perera is a Partner at KPMG Sri Lanka and has served in the CA Sri Lanka Council since 2010.

He chairs the Examination Committee and the SMP Capacity Building Task Force and as well as serves as the Chairman of the Operations Review Committee of CA Sri Lanka.

Perera was the Chairman of the Student Training and Development Committee, and at present serves as a board member of Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board. He is also a member of SMPs, Anti-Corruption and also the Professional Ethics and Independence Committees of SAFA.

    well done well deserved for the service Lasantha has done for the accountants body We all should be proud of Lasantha .to top it up a product of Nalanda what an accolade and an achievement for a village boy.

    I am yet to see a member of an audit firm sanctioned for not seeing obvious instances of fraud, manipulation, window dressing etc. So, what has the current Chair done to deserve this post?
