ECONOMYNEXT – The Sri Lankan government has approved plans to build another air cargo terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport to ease congestion at the existing facility caused by growth in air freight.
The BIA, north of the capital Colombo, handled 280 million metric tonnes of cargo in 2018, with freight shipments having grow at eight percent in the past five years, the state information office said in a statement.
The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved a proposal to build an additional terminal for import cargo presented by Arjuna Ranatunga, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation.
