ECONOMYNEXT – SMEC International Pty, a unit of Singapore-based urban planning consultancy Surbana Jurong Pvt Ltd, and Resources Development Consultants (RDC) have won a contract for a feasibility study on an elevated highway in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.

The study is on part of a planned four-lane elevated highway linking the new Kelani bridge, at the northern entrance to Colombo over the Kelani River, to the southeastern suburb of Authurugiriya.

SMEC and RDC have won a Rs98.73 million contract to study the feasibility of a section of the elevated highway through Colombo, from the Rajagiriya suburb to Athurugiriya.

Athurugiriya has an access ramp to the Outer Circular Highway around Colombo connecting to the Southern Expresway and a planned link to the Katunayake airport expressway.

The contract was approved by the Cabinet of ministers this week, government spokesman Minister of Lands Gayantha Karunatilleke said.
