ECONOMYNEXT – Sierra Construction has won five of nine projects for improving rural roads in Sri Lanka’s central province funded by the Asian Development Bank, the government said.
Two contracts have gone to Edward & Christie, and one each to CML – MTD Construction and K. D. Ebert & Sons Holdings, according to the Highways Ministry.
The contracts were for rehabilitation of 222km of roads in Kandy District, 181km of roads in Nuwara Eliya District, and 195km of roads in Matale District, government spokesman Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne told a news conference.
He said the government had applied for the Multi Tranche Financing Facility for the Asian Development Bank funded Integrated Road Investment Programme.
The cabinet of ministers this week approved the award contracts for the nine civil works contract packages in the Central Province, he said. (Colombo/October 16 2015)
