ECONOMYNEXT - SriLankan Airlines is in talks with Airbus to cancel four A350 aircraft on order, which were overpriced and are not suitable for its routes, officials said.
Chairman of Sri Lanka's National Public Private Agency Thilan Wijesinghe said a team of laws and aviation specialists have been hired to conduct negotiations.
Newly appointed Chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines Ranjith Fernando said the airline in the past had bought overpriced aircraft paying in excess of 30 percent of market prices, which the airline could not afford.
Wide bodied aircraft were also not suited for the airline's current routes, he Fernando said.
Sri Lanka's newly appointed board is studying a re-structuring plan which aims to turn the airline around within three years.
