SriLankan Airlines to boost internet bookings to 20-percent over year

ECONOMYNEXT - State-run SriLankan Airlines is planning to double internet bookings to 20 percent of total sales over the next year with a revamped user-friendly website in multiple languages and payment options, officials said.

"Our website is very often the first point of contact for our passengers and our new site is designed to be the start of that experience," Chief Executive Suren Ratwatte said.

SriLankan Airlines has got about 8.8 percent of their sales from the SriLankan.com webiste, last year and it has now increased to 12 percent.

Ajith Weeresekera manager e-business development said the airline expected to boost internet sales to 20 percent of total within the next year.

Targeting Sri Lanka based customers the Sinhalese and Tamil language versions will be available shortly.

After making a booking, which will be kept for 48 hours, customer in Sri Lanka without a credit card will be able to make a payment at Bank of Ceylon, Commercial Bank, Hatton National Bank or Sampath Bank through a 'book now and pay later facility'.

Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Arabic, Russian, French German and Italian websites will also be available.
