FAR WINGS:  SriLankan Airlines joined oneworld, a global airline alliance in 2014.

COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – State-run SriLankan Airlines said it had struck a code-share deal with American Airlines, a founder of 'oneworld', a global airline alliance it joined a year ago.

SriLankan Airlines 'UL' designator will be placed on six transatlantic routes operating from Dallas, Chicago and New York to Frankfurt and Paris.

These flights are available for booking from April 27, 2015 for travel from April 30, SriLankan said in a statement.

"This agreement will provide customers traveling from Sri Lanka greater access to key destinations throughout the United States," Kurt Stache, senior vice president at American Airlines was quoted as saying in the statement.

The 'AA' code will be placed on several SriLankan flights operated to South Asian destinations from Colombo. SriLankan is the only South Asian airline admitted to oneworld.

The code share agreement with American Airlines is the fifth signed with Oneworld members since joining the alliance in May 2014.

"Being part of oneworld has vastly improved SriLankan’s and our nation’s connectivity with the rest of the world, which is vital for our country’s trade and tourism," SriLankan Airlines’ Head of Worldwide Sales, Mr. Lal Perera said in a statement.

"Today's agreement with American Airlines improves still further our access to and from the United States."

Members of American’s AAdvantage and SriLankan’s FlySmiLes loyalty programmes can already earn and redeem mileage rewards as part of oneworld services . Top tier cardholders can access lounges and enjoy additional baggage allowances and priority baggage delivery.
