Sri Lanka’s power utility in joint venture for Hambantota port LNG plant

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s state-run Ceylon Electricity Board is to enter into a joint venture with Singapore’s Hambantota Power Private Limited to set up a 400MW liquefied natural gas power plants in the southern Hambantota port.
The state information office said the Cabinet of ministers this week approved a proposal by Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Ranjith Siyambalapitiya for the joint venture between the Sri Lankan and Chinese government entities.
The US$500 million power plant is to be built by China Machinery Engineering Corporation in Hambantota Port which is controlled by China Merchants Port Holdings (CMPorts). (COLOMBO, 03 October, 2018)
