Sri Lanka President calls for equality with UN International Vesak Festival

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena has underlined the key role played by equality and justice in bringing peace as the country hosts the United Nations International Vesak Day.
Vesak marks the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha. This years' theme for the the International Vesak Festival is 'Buddhist Teachings for Social Justice and Sustainable Peace' .
"The key condition for the social justice is equality," President Sirisena said in a Vesak Day message.
"The Buddhist teachings also give prominence to this universal concept of equality.
"The Buddha said, the peace which is the key factor of the existence of human beings can only be
built in a healthy society where equality has been established."
The UN offering the key role at the UN International Vesak Festival demonstrated the victories the country has achieved in the international arena he said. (Colombo/May10/2017)
