Sri Lanka airport duty free franchise tender draws global interest

ECONOMYNEXT - Tenders to run core duty free sales alcohol, tobacco, perfume and confectionary at Sri Lanka's main international airport has closed with exiting two operators and others submitting bids, sources familiar with the matter said.
Dufry and Flemingo which runs an existing duopoly in the arrival and departure areas of Bandaranaike International Airport had submitted bids.
Others who bid or expressed interest include Shila, Aer Rianta, DFS and B&S Holding, sources said.
Tobaco sales are restricted at the arrivals area in Colombo.
The arrivals area has 2600 square feet of space. The departure area has 5000 and 3000 square feet space earmarked for the two operators.
