ECONOMYNEXT  - Sri Lanka's state-run SriLankan Airlines urged passengers to report to the airport three hours before their flight from May 17 as airport border control officers were on work-to-rule.

"SriLankan Airlines wish to inform all passengers, to arrive at the airport three hours prior to the departure time effective today, 17th May 2018, 12.00pm onwards until further notice," Sri Lankan Airlines said.

Immigration officer's union official said they are reluctant to go on full scale strike and stay at home, because it will result in the country's borders being closed.

Engineers at Sri Lanka's power utility union is also on work-to-rule but have said that they will ensure power is swiftly restored to hospitals in case there is a failure.

Sri Lanka's Government Medical Officers Union however goes on strike often. Their members then engage in private practice. (Colombo/May17/2018)
