ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers has approved plans to buy more solar and wind power plants to support the government goal of raising renewable energy generation to one-third of the island’s requirement.

Plans to buy 150 MW of solar and 60MW of wind power were approved this week, the state information office said.

The state power utility Ceylon Electricity Board has plans to increase its use of renewable energy to about one-third of the total requirement by 2030.

Under its long-term generation plan the CEB aims to connect 150 MW of solar and 60MW of wind power by 2020, the statement said.
