ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka has condemned a nuclear test by North Korea and asked the country not to de-stabilize the region.
"The Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka condemns the nuclear test carried out by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 9th September 2016," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"Sri Lanka notes with concern that this is the second such test to be carried out by the DPRK this year.
"Sri Lanka calls upon the DPRK to abide by its international obligations and refrain from any action which would compromise peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula."
North Korea is one of the few countries in the world still practising 'self-sufficiency' or autarky (Juche) and is coupled with militarism (Songun). It is said to have the world's fourth largest Army.
The country has been led creation after the Second World War 'Great Leader' Kim Il-Sun, his son and now his grandson.
There is no religious nationalism in line with the country's Marxist, Leninist origins. North Korea was divided between the Soviet Union and the US after the Japanese Empire was defeated during World War II. South Korea is now a fast growing liberal democracy. (Colombo/Sept15/2016)
