Sri Lanka gives public sector salary hike: Budget 2019

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka will increase public sector salaries and correct anomalies in pension payments, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said.

"We will increase the state sector salary by 2,500 rupees," he said, delivering the 2019 budget.

He said 40 billion rupees have been allocated for the salary increase, which will start in July.

He said since 2015, salaries of public sector employees have doubled.

Samaraweera said there were anomalies in pensions paid to state sector employees retiring before 2016, and 12 billion rupees will be allocated to correct this. (Colombo/Mar05/2019-SB)
