ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka has ended 2018 with inflation of 2.8 percent in 2018, measured by the Colombo Consumer Price Index, with inflation slowing from 3.3 percent a month earlier, the state statistics office said.

In the month of December the index rose just 0.1 points to 128.8 points.

Sri Lanka has recorded relatively low inflation in 2018 despite steep depreciation of the rupee amid capital outflows, currency defence and liquidity shortages in the banking system.

Core inflation, which the central bank says it can control, rose 3.1 percent during the year, which is broadly in line with the headline number.
