Sri Lanka national inflation rises 2.9-pct in March

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's nationwide inflation picked up to 2.9 percent in the 12-months to March 2019 from 2.4 percent in February, the state statistics office said.
Price levels of food items fell 2.3 percent from a year earlier in March, compared to a 2.9 percent fall in February, the Census and Statistics Department said.
Non-food inflation grew to 7.1 percent in March from a year earlier, compared to 6.7 percent in February, mainly due to a rise in utilities and fuel prices.
The National Consumer Price Index fell 0.2 percent in a month to month change to 126.4 points from February to March, due to a 1.05 percent fall in food prices and a 0.5 percent gain in non-food prices. (Colombo/Apr23/2019-SB)
