Sri Lanka rupee opens steady

ECONOMYNEXT - The Sri Lanka rupee opened steady at 182.10/40 rupees against the US dollar in the spot market Tuesday, market participants said.
The currency closed Monday at 182.25/35 rupees against the greenback, strengthening from Friday's closing of 182.65/75 rupees.
On Monday banks borrowed 97.9 billion rupees from the Central Bank's overnight window at 9 percent, down from Friday's 115.03 billion rupees, to meet a liquidity crunch created by the Central Bank's currency defense.
There were no quotes for bonds in early secondary market trading, dealers said.
A bond maturing in 2021 ended Monday at 11.26/30 percent, easing from the previous close of 11.28/33 percent.
A bond maturing in 2026 closed Monday at 11.60/62 percent, easing slightly from Friday's closing of 11.60/65 percent. (COLOMBO, 08 January 2019)
