Sri Lanka rupee steady, stocks open higher

ECONOMYNEXT - The Sri Lanka rupee was steady at 159.30/35 rupees against the US dollar in early trading Tuesday and stocks gained 0.11 percent, brokers and dealers said.
The US dollar closed Monday at 159.30/35 rupees in the spot market, marginally stronger from Friday's 159.20/35 rupee close.
In equities, the Colombo All Share index gained 0.11 percent, up 6.65 points to 6,083.97, and the S&P SL20 of more liquid stocks gained a marginal 0.01 percent, up 0.26 points to 3,298.49.
Market turnover was 16 million rupees.
Lanka Indian Oil Company was 20 cents higher at 32.20 rupees.
Sampath Bank was trading 20 cents lower at 294 rupees and NDB was down 50 cents to 110.50 rupees.
John Keells Holdings was down 20 cents to 141.80 rupees.
At Monday's closing, the All Share index had declined 4.58 percent since the beginning of the year. (COLOMBO, 10 July 2018).
