ECONOMYNEXT - The third and final reading of Sri Lanka's annual budget for 2018 was approved by parliament Saturday with an overwhelming  two-thirds majority.

Legislators voted 155 in favour and 56 against the appropriation bill presented by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera in November 9.

Saturday’s vote saw the government side improving by four votes while the opposition suffered a decline of two seats compared to the voting at the second reading on November 16.

The 2018 budget seeks to liberalise the economy further. (COLOMBO, November 16, 2017)
