Sri Lanka's October inflation in Colombo hits 7.8-pct

ECONOMYNEXT – Consumer inflation in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo rose to 7.8 percent in October from a year ago, the highest in eight months, according to data from the Department of Census and Statistics.

The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI) rose 0.9 percent in October, compared with a rise of 0.8 percent in September, it said in a statement.

The year-on-year inflation of the Food Group increased from 10.4% in September to 12.6% in October 2017 and that of the Non‐food Group increased from 5.5% to 5.8% during this period.

Contribution to inflation by food commodities in October 2017, on a year-on-year basis was 3.71 percent while the contribution of Non Food items was 4.05 percent.
