ECONOMYNEXT – The United Nations Development Programme is to provide technical assistance to help Sri Lankan small businesses better cope with disasters.
The UNDP and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) have entered into a partnership to promote greater private sector engagement in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction.
A statement said both organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the partnership which will help reach out to Sri Lankan businesses.
Under this partnership, UNDP will provide technical assistance to the FCCISL to establish a Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation Unit at FCCISL.
“The adaptation unit will aim to empower Small and Medium Scale Enterprises to be resilient to potential natural disasters,” it said. (Colombo/December 24, 2015)
