Sri Lanka taps Siemens for 'smart city' technology

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's ministry charged with making the Western Province around the capital, Colombo into a 'Megapolis' has inked a deal to tap the expertise of Siemens, a Germany technology firm to make the city efficient.
Siemens can provide 'Smart City' application which involve the efficient deployment and management of transport, power, waste disposal, healthcare and other urban infrastructure and services.
Lakshman Jayasekara, Project Director of the Western Region Megapolis Planning Project, said Siemens expertise and technologies will help eliminate congestion pressures on urban infrastructure, services and environment and reduce the per unit capital cost of infrastructure.
Sunil Mathur, Managing Director and CEO, Siemens Limited India said the firm had the expertise to help cities become more liveable, more competitive and more sustainable.
