Sri Lanka tests 25MW Moragahakanda hydropower plant

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka has begun test runs on a 25 MegaWatt hydropower plant in Moragahakanda after heavy rains filled a newly built reservoir in Moragahakanda.

Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena, has visited the site and kicked off the testing of the generators, his office said in a statement.

The Moragahakanda multipurpose project will also provide water for irrigation.

The Moragahakanda hydropower plant has two 7.5MW generators and two 5.0MW generators.

As part of the testing regime, the generators will be operated continuously for 72 hours, the statement said.

    Grate asset like the other hydro projects. It is soothing to here that some thing will be added to production(GDP)of the country. Actually a stream of benefits over the years.
