COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Sri Lanka is to upgrade the waste water system of its capital Colombo under a 100 million US dollar loan from the Asian Development Bank, government spokesman Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said.

The Cabinet of ministers this week approved a proposal by Minister of Public Administration Karu Jayasuriya to properly plan construction of the waste water pump houses within the city limits of the Colombo Municipality.

It also approved the award of related contracts for establishment of the new pumping stations and renovation of the existing system, he told a news conference.

The contracts are under the Greater Colombo Waste Water Management Project funded by ADB which has provided a loan of 100 million US dollars to the government of Sri Lanka to modernize Colombo’s waste water network.
