ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal (CPSTL) has commissioned an aviation fuel filtration unit enabling it to supply aircraft with cleaner fuel and reduce import costs, its chairman Dammika Ranatunga said.

The company speeded up the completion of the filtration unit facilities at Kolonnawa which had been neglected for some time as it was required to comply with international standards, he said in a statement.

The Joint Inspection Group (JIG), an international body formed of oil companies to develop standards for use at international airports where they operate, had recommended the requirement of aviation fuel filtration in Sri Lanka, he said.

The JIG’s main function is to inspect standards and quality of aviation fuel pumping.

Ranatunga said the new facility, built by engineers of CPSTL, will enable it to reduce costs by saving US$2-300,000 per vessel on aviation fuel shipments.
