COLOMBO (EconomyNext) – Sri Lankan shares extended gains Wednesday at a seven-week high with Hemas Holdings rights the most actively traded and the highest gainer, brokers said.
The All Share Price Index ended at 7,173.37, up 38.94 points (0.55%) while the S&P SL 20 index, which tracks the top 20 largest and most liquid stocks, rose 22.18 points (0.55%) to end at 4,048.44.
Turnover was 975 million rupees.
Hemas Holdings rights most the actively traded share and the highest gainer, ending up almost 30 percent (80 cents) at 3.50 rupees.
The benchmark was lifted by gains in Carson Cumberbatch, Distilleries Company and Sri Lanka Telecom.
Parliament on Tuesday voted in favour of critical constitutional reforms, albeit a watered down version.
But brokers said the political uncertainty that has affected investor sentiment would not end until general elections are held.
