ECONOMYNEXT - The United States has lifted travel advisory imposed after Easter Sunday suicide attacks which asked citizens to reconsider visits to Sri Lanka to exercising increased caution when traveling to the island.

"Exercise increased caution in Sri Lanka due to terrorism," the US State Department continues to warn.

"Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets, shopping malls, government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, hospitals, and other public areas."

In April the State Department ordered family members of US officials to leave Sri Lanka after Islamists suicide bombed three churches and hotels.

From June 24 the order has been lifted.  Sri Lanka's travel advisory is now in 'Level 2 - Exercise Increased Caution' from an earlier 'Level 3  - Reconsider Travel'.

UK had already downgraded from its April advisory of reconsider non-essential travel.

Sri Lanka has said an Islamist terror network that had carried out the bombings had been largely dismantled. (Colombo/June25/2019)
