A ceremony held to commemorate fallen soldiers
A ceremony to remember war veterans was held yesterday (22) in the presence of President Maithripala Sirisena at The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo.
These soldiers were posthumously awarded the “Parama Weera Vibhushanaya” (PWV), the highest gallantry award for Sri Lankan military officer at the ceremony.
A special publication named ‘Uttamachara’ which documents the achievements of the soldiers, their gallantry and bravery along with a special coin, stamp, and a First-day cover were also launched at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, Sirisena promoted ten more senior Brigadiers of the Sri Lanka Army to the rank of Major General.
