ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena had made acting appointments in place of several Muslim ministers who resigned protesting harassment of their community in the wake of Easter Sunday blasts.
Lucky Jayawardene had been appointed Urban Planning and Water Supply acting minister in place of Rauff Hakeem.
Buddika Pathirana had been appointed Industries and Commerce acting minister following the resignation of Rishard Bathiudeen.
Anoma Gamage had been appointed acting minister of Highways and Petroleum Development in place of Kabir Hashim.
The acting ministers earlier held the posts of deputy in the same ministries.
Sri Lanka’s Muslim cabinet ministers resigned en masse following rising nationalism as a monk fasted demanding the resignation of two Muslim governors and one minister. (Colombo/June10/2019)
