AG directs CID to expedite Lasantha, Thajudeen & other cases

Attorney General Dappula De Livera today issued fresh directives to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to expedite investigations into four high profile murder and abduction cases that occurred between 2005 and 2015.

The Attorney General has instructed Acting IGP C. D. Wickramaratne along with the Director CID and the DIG CID to expedite the cases of slain journalist Lasantha Wickramatunge, murdered rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, the 17 Action Against Hunger aid workers killed in Muttur in 2006 and the 11 youth allegedly abducted by Navy personnel in 2008-2009.

According to State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne of the Attorney General’s Department, the officials have been instructed to submit a report on the completed investigations to the Attorney General urgently.
