AG not to blame: PCoI
ECONOMYNEXT – Apropos our report headlined “SriLankan airlines staffer fears for her life after testifying,” the President Commission of Inquiry says the witness did not blame the Attorney General.
The report was based on testimony of Priyadarshani Epitawala, Network Planning and Research Manager at SriLankan, at the inquiry into the affairs of Sri Lankan airlines, Sri Lankan catering and Mihin Lanka.
“I have to inform you that the proceedings of the day were closely examined by the Commission and at no time did the witness make such an utterance blaming the Attorney General’s Department in the manner recorded in the newspaper,” PCoI Secretary N. Ariyadasa Cooray said.
Epitawala had said she feared for her life after giving evidence before the commission and had sought protection. In her testimony, she detailed what she said were irregularities in awarding 400 million rupees worth of contracts under the former regime.
