AG’s opinion is that motion to abolish death penalty is illegal-President
President Maithripala Sirisena said that the Attorney General has informed him that the private members’ motion presented to Parliament to abolish the death penalty is illegal.
Further, he pointed out that drug dealers, criminals and rapists are the happiest in the face of the rising voices against the anti-drug war.
He also said that several ministers in the current government are involved in the destruction of the Muthurajawela forest reserve which is a valuable asset in the Gampaha district.
The President made these remarks addressing the concluding ceremony of the ‘Rata Wenuwen Ekata Sitimu’ program in Gampaha District, held at the Diwulapitiya Public Ground this morning (05 Aug).
