All suspects wanted over Negombo incident now in police custody
ECONOMYNEXT – All seven individuals suspected to have been involved in the violent incident at a restaurant in Periyamulla, Negombo, last night that saw one person dead and four injured are now in police custody.
A spokesman for the police media division told EconomyNext that six suspects surrendered to the Negombo police this afternoon, following the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect earlier today in connection with the incident.
All suspects are reportedly between ages 18 and 20 and reside in the same area in Periyamulla.
The incident occurred when the group of suspects had forcibly attempted to consume alcohol at the Muslim-run restaurant. An argument erupted which escalated into violence when the group attacked the restaurant owner and staff with a sharp weapon, causing serious injury.
One of the workers later succumbed to his injuries upon admission to the Negombo hospital.
The victim is a 36-year-old resident of Kekirawa by the name of Abdul Gaffoor Abdul Aziz. (Colombo/Mar10/2020)
